Common Questions from the Community

Is my child’s school going to close?

Murphy and Tisko will serve as Branford’s elementary schools moving forward. John B. Sliney Elementary School and Indian Neck School will no longer serve as K–4 schools as part of this long-term plan.

Will my child have to switch schools?

Some students will transition to different school buildings as the plan is implemented. Transitions will be planned carefully and communicated well in advance to minimize disruption for students and families.

When would any school changes actually happen?

No school transitions happen immediately. The earliest changes would occur after planning, design, state approvals, and construction—several years into the timeline.

Will my child be in a construction zone?

Construction will be phased and coordinated to keep students safe. Schools will remain open, and work will be scheduled to limit disruption during the school day whenever possible.

Why are we investing this much instead of fixing only what’s broken?

The plan compares the cost of ongoing emergency repairs with the cost of coordinated, long-term improvements. Planning ahead helps avoid repeated short-term fixes that are more expensive over time.

What happens if needs change?

Enrollment trends and other projections were reviewed as part of the planning process. Because of this, the plan is designed to be flexible. Projects move forward in phases and can be adjusted as conditions change.

What happens if costs come in higher than expected?

Costs are reviewed at each phase. Timelines, scope, and sequencing can be adjusted based on funding, state reimbursement, and local decisions.
