Learning Environments

The plan examines how classrooms, shared spaces, and school layouts can better support:

• Collaboration and creativity

• Small-group and hands-on learning

• Student well-being and engagement
   

This may involve rethinking how existing spaces are used, not just building new ones.

Elementary Schools

Murphy and Tisko will serve as Branford’s two elementary schools, with planned additions and renovations designed to support long-term use and modern learning.

 

Improvements may include:​

• Updated classrooms

• Improved gymnasium and cafeteria spaces

• Modernized kitchens and support areas

• Site and accessibility enhancements
   

Focusing investment on these schools allows the district to move away from older buildings that are no longer well-suited to today’s needs.

As part of the long-term plan for elementary schools, John B. Sliney Elementary School will close so the district can better align its facilities with current and future student needs.​

Branford High School

Work at Branford High School will take place in phases over several years.

​

The plan begins with urgent repairs to core building systems, followed by longer-term improvements that may include:

• Updated learning spaces

• Improvements to common areas

• Cafeteria and kitchen upgrades

• Career and technical education spaces

• Ongoing system and technology upgrades

Early Childhood (Pre-K)

The district serves approximately 190 Pre-K students each year. BPS Forward relocates Pre-K into purpose-built spaces designed specifically for young learners.

 

These spaces will be:

• Safe and age-appropriate

• Designed for early childhood education

• Adaptable as enrollment and state guidance evolve
