The Plan Beyond the Promise

Branford is committed to investing in the future of its schools. BPS Forward serves as the information hub for the long-term, phased plan to modernize learning spaces, update essential building systems, and create school facilities that better support today’s students, the entire Branford community, and generations to come.

Developed in collaboration with the Town of Branford, this work reflects a shared commitment to thoughtful planning and responsible investment. Town bodies, including the Board of Finance Board of Selectman, and Representative Town Meeting, review and help fund each phase alongside the District.

"Branford's students deserve learning spaces that inspire possibility. Advancing a bold, community-driven plan to renew our school buildings is how we open the door to the future so our students are ready to lead."

Peter Berdon

Board Chair

The Master Facilities Plan focuses on long-term stewardship, supporting students while being mindful of our District's responsibility to the broader Branford community.

  • Safety and reliability come first: Roofs, HVAC systems, and other critical infrastructure are addressed before larger renovations begin.

  • Learning is a top priority: Facilities and educational programs are planned together to better support how students learn today.

  • Schools remain and supported: Improvements are phased to minimize disruption for students and staff.

  • Costs are planned responsibly:  Investments are spread over 15–20 years and aligned with state funding, special legislation, and general fiscal oversight.

Strong schools support the whole community: increased property values, families choosing to move here, and Branford's competitiveness. Our goal with BPS Forward is to ensure Branford’s future builds on what already makes our town so special through forward-thinking, fiscally responsible approaches.

"Branford deserves top-notch schools that match the strategic vision we’re setting forth across our town. This plan and the partnerships that make it possible show what that commitment looks like in action."   — Josh Brooks, First Selectman of Branford

What's Underway?

Summer/Fall 2026

  • Special State legislation secured, creating a one-time $29.4M additional state construction project reimbursement opportunity for Branford to support renovations at Mary T. Murphy and Mary R. Tisko elementary schools. The projects are expected to receive approximately 72% total state reimbursement, a significant cost savings for local taxpayers.

  • The Town of Branford's Board of Finance and Representative Town Meeting have received informational briefings on the plan, working collaboratively to foster the appropriate next steps, including a comprehensive, but adaptable timeline

  • Nearly $11M in urgent repair work beginning at Branford High School, including a total roof replacement along with updates to HVAC systems, plumbing, flooring, and other critical items
